The paper crane project

I just stumbled across this cool project that eshu is running over on Flickr. She agreed to send 1,000 paper cranes to different volunteer Flickrites in return for them sending back one or more cool photos of said cranes. It’s a cool idea, and has resulted in some very nice shots (this included). She’s got her full allotment of 1,000 volunteers, which saves me having to remind myself that I don’t have time for this :-).

This was particularly timely since the three of us spent part of Thursday evening folding paper cranes. The PRCA had a reception connected to their current “Bird” exhibit (which contains work by both moi and Sub-Evil Boy). Ferrolyn brought some very cool paper and showed everyone how to fold paper cranes; I think we made five between the three of us. There was also a short presentation by wildlife biologist Sara Vacek on a program to reintroduce prairie chickens into some grasslands a bit south of here. It would be very cool to go out and take photos of their mating behavior (“booming”) in the spring, but that’ll have to wait since we’ve missed this year’s fun.
