Terrible glory

These are four scanned pictures of hardcopies I possess of the French nuclear test codenamed Licorne, which was fired on August 24, 1970 . The French army had those pictures taken on site.

Those pictures were readily available at the time at Tahiti and Moruroa military base, and mine have been quite degraded. I scanned them and tried to restore them.

    These bombs make the one from WWII look like firecrackers. And the bombs of today are even stronger than this one.

    Great and terrible is that power.

    Yeah, it’s hard to even conceive of how powerful modern fusion weapons are. (Sort of like trying to understand the magnitude of defense budget numbers.)

    I think that most people really can’t grasp the potential of bombs like this, and trying to just hurts too much.
