It must have been a bit of a shock for poor old Norm

Yesterday George Galloway, MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, roasted the US Senate committee investigating the ‘oil for food’ scandal. And he did it without notes too. You can read more about his testimony at the Beeb.

I have no opinion on Galloway’s participation in this scandal. But I do find it suspicious that a leading opponent to the war in Iraq is on the US Senate’s hit list. Perhaps the committee should turn it’s attention to people who we know have done deals with Saddam Hussein. They might start with Donald Rumsfeld and go from there.

Disappointingly, only 2 US Senators bothered to turn up, which given that they’ve accused Mr Galloway of breaking the law, is rather disrespectful. I suspect they realised they wouldn’t stand a chance and didn’t want to be shown up in public.

If you get the chance you should listen to coverage of Prime Minister’s Questions from the British House of Commons. It’s not for the meek and mild. I suspect George Bush (shrub variety) wouldn’t last 10 seconds.

I heard a bit of this live on the BBC, and he really was giving ‘em some serious what for. It was quite something to behold and pretty darn impressive, especially given that he was running without notes. The best part was his skilled enthusiasm for pointing out the inconsistencies (dare I say hypocrisies) of his accusers.
