War of the Worlds (SPOILER)
Scary! Despite its weaknesses this movie is well worth checking out. The special effects are out of this world as you’d expect from Steven Spielberg. Parts were incredibly tense and very scary. On the down side the prologue and epilogue didn’t really connect to what came between them and the fact that none of the main characters was dead by the end was completely unbelievable given all that had gone before. If the son or daughter had died the film would have carried a greater emotional weight and been more honest to how the story was told. As for the alien craft being burried beneath the surface for as long as suggested, I didn’t believe it for a moment but I didn’t particularly mind this contrivance as watching them emerge was quite something.
