I am saved, hallelujah!

Phew. My Twitter friend Wellmettled saved the day and has restored WeatherGirlness to WeatherGirl but with a little feminist twist. So if you’re looking for me on Twitter I’m now going by the moniker weathergrrrl.

Goodbye contorted weather_movies, hello Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Is it over yet?

I know, it’s bad of me, but I’m doing my best to avoid all the rigmarole attendant with the US election season. It is soooooooo depressing hearing from US citizen after US citizen all polishing their Old Glory badges with pride, few of whom seem to have read, let alone understood, the US Constitution or Bill of Rights. What … equality of all people? … freedom of religion? Pashaw!

I suppose it has seeped into this ye olde brain that the United State of America is really a dream of an idea whose day still has not dawned. *sigh*

Tweet with me

Yesterday I finally set up a Twitter account under the name weather_movies. I know, it’s a completely naff name but all the usual suspects were taken and I wasn’t in the most inspired name choosing mood. *shrug* I’m hoping using it will encourage me to post more. Don’t hold your breath however.

Maybe if inspiration strikes (or someone offers a suggestion, hint, hint) I’ll change my nom de plume to something sexier.

If you have an account let me know and we can tweet together.

How I while away my time these days.

So I was a little insane at the start of the university year and signed up for three classes. Usually I only take one class a semester or perhaps two if the art discipline are offering a topics class I’m interested in. Officially this makes a half load and entails paying all sorts of fees most of which are for services I won’t ever need or use. As usual I have one credit of beginning piano with Kay Carlson. The other six, yes really SIX, are beginning sculpture and media studies: artist books. This means I’m making a lot of stuff in lots of different media.

I’m feeling a little snowed under.

We’re currently having our autumn break and I’m taking advantage of not having class to attend and catching up with the post-sabbatical unboxing and putting away.

Eagle Eye

Okay. Not bad I suppose. At least a not too offensive way to while away 2 hours while consuming your favourite beverage and movie snack. Car chases, guns, technology, the war on terror, and big brother, all make their not unexpected appearances, though since my brain doesn’t work at light speed parsing some of the visuals proved impossible. On the plus side Michelle Monaghan and Rosario Dawson played 3D female characters who didn’t act like imbeciles or freak the hell out when the going got tough. Now if only that could be a more regular occurrence in the movie going experience.

Traitor

Entertaining. Boy is the tension tight for most of this movie. As with this kind of a story once certain information is revealed it loses some on its operating dynamic but I still found it interesting to see how the plot worked out. One scene at the end rang a little false and felt preachy but otherwise I was glad to have watched. The film raises a lot of questions about what is/is not a moral way to behave and how do you go about protecting the security of a nation without abusing those you are trying to protect. Don Cheadle was very effective as the lead and I’d like to see him in more roles like this.

Burn After Reading

Quirky. A movie that engages the brain, tickles the funny bone and doesn’t telegraph where it’s going. Funny, and shocking and weird all at the same time. And, oh boy, what a cast. I think I might have to watch again to catch all the stuff that is going on because I suspect not everything is clear on first blush.

Wanted

Fluff. Yes, this film is gratuitously violent and the plot is completely stark raving bonkers but it passed the time pleasantly enough as we snacked on popcorn and soda. Plus Angelina Jolie rocks!!!

Hancock

Blargh! I detested the beginning of this movie, talk about nails on a blackboard, it made me want to wretch. The twist comes along, which was so highly sign posted that it was not exactly a surprise. Incredulity makes itself at home in my brain so I concentrate on enjoying the popcorn and soda to stop myself falling asleep. This movie was a complete waste of time and talent.
