WeatherGirl’s Station

We're back from Blighty, regular life has recommenced. Our favourite alternative student radio station is still KUMM. To listen to the live feed online visit them at kumm.org. Phi and I have a show Sundays from Noon to 2pm CST and Sub Evil Boy is on air 8am - 10am CST Sunday.

Times they are a changing

I noticed a while back that my posts had really freaky time stamps on them. Well, um, my setting were still as if I was in Minnesota posting in the Central Standard Time zone. This has now been corrected. All times should be Greenwich Mean Time (GMT.) Not to be nationalistic or anything!

Wireless hiccup

So the guys had a freak out moment this a.m. when they couldn’t access the internet. They both headed off for their days and left me to handle the technology. To the good, the internet is still there (aren’t you glad?) and currently I’m plugged straight into the DSL modem through an ethernet cable. On the downside, we have no wireless, which will be a little awkward when the young’un gets home from school and wants to IM the universe.

Poor old techie-research-fellow will have to battle the aged airport gremlins when he gets home from his little excursion to visit a UMM grad in London at the British Museum. The story of our lives - cross the pond and meet alums!

We put up another podcast on our adventures and you can check it out on Phi’s blog.

Technical lackey claims success

Well the technical crew that slaves away keeping WeatherGirl’s Station in fine fettle, has installed a plug-in that should make life in this tiny corner of the blogsphere a little bit easier.

Comments now feature SecureImage, a CAPTCHA program that helps differentiate between humans and bots. Thanksgiving proved a thankless time for dealing with Station comment spam. My oh my were the spammers busy. My in-box was groaning under the barrage of ringtones, tamiflu, and poker ads. The technical crew got a whiney earful, which proved just the right amount of incentive to do the buggers in.

For now I’ll be leaving moderation on but if Station spam is curtailed I might be tempted to let comments go live immediately. Time will tell. Grateful thanks go to the Station’s technical lackey.

Comment update

Yes, I know, comments are still broken. My apologies. There is a possible solution on the horizon, however.

Grades are due Wednesday. Then my techie flunky will be free, free to work on the problem. And he knows on which side his bread is buttered!

Cycling latest

Having discovered cyclingfans.com I’ve been visiting every day and using their links to follow the 2005 Giro.

Today they added a live feed to Italian TV coverage of today’s stage. The picture wasn’t the greatest but when combined with the Eurosport audio feed it was a definite step up.

Cheers to cyclingfans.com for helping provide me with my daily Giro fix!!!

Comments? What comments?

When my techie flunky upgraded WeatherGirl’s Station something broke and comments appear to be no more. Lead suspect is the theme I’m using. Said flunky is currently drowning under a staggering weight of work so I can’t really bug him too much for a fix. It will be fixed … eventually. If you’ve posted a comment in the past, do not despair, it’s perfectly safe in the database.

Specially message for correspondent Jane, of Winchester. There will be a special rending of garments and pleas for forgiveness by your infamous, distracted, foreign correspondent, shortly. That is assuming said correspondent can rekindle a less tumultuous life.

Browser Update

It appears that RealPlayer and its plugins now works as it should with Camino so I can return to a one browser universe. Yee ha! The only niggle is that when downloading an audio file it doesn’t automatically open as it did in Safari. Not sure why.
