In the Valley of Elah

Heartbreaking. Superficially about the disappearance of a soldier who has just returned from Iraq, this film delves into the effects of a war like that being fought in Iraq on human beings. The performances are superb. Plus there are some very subtle comments on certain male behaviour that made me want to hug someone. There’s no triumphant ending, no platitudes, and a great deal of human suffering along the way, but a number of characters are changed by the experience and that always gives one hope.
