Maybe it should be called Oregon Engish (-: instead of General American. I once ate lunch with a guy from Florida, in a restaurant in San Franciso, who identified my accent as either Pendleton, Oregon or the MidWest. I was born 20 miles from Pendleton. I do always feel completely at home talking to midwesterners … except that they dont know that a small stream is called a ‘crick’.
