Five great colleagues making this an even better place

From UMM’s Weekly Bulletin last week:

Faculty pool resources to create endowed scholarship

Nancy Carpenter, associate professor of chemistry, Pareena Lawrence, associate professor of economics, Leslie Meek, associate professor of psychology, Jenny Nellis, professor of studio art, and Peh Ng, associate professor of mathematics, all members of the University of Minnesota’s Academy of Distinguished Teachers, have established a Promise of Tomorrow Scholarship that qualifies for the President’s Scholarship Match. The endowed Scholarship for Engagement and Academic Leadership will be awarded on the basis of academic merit to new students enrolling at UMM. It is renewable with a GPA of at least 2.5 and evidence of involvement in student life such as, but not limited to, involvement in a student organization, participating in volunteer work or service learning.

I’ve had the good fortune to work with each of these fine folks in a variety of settings over the years, and each is a tremendous asset to UMM. That they would come together to create this scholarship is just further evidence of their individual and collective commitment to the importance of educational opportunities for all, the power of education to make a positive difference in our world, and UMM as a valuable agent in those processes.

You ladies rock!
