Uh… I didn’t study! This wasn’t on the sylabus! Uh… ummmm…
We are the same amount of human without the internet that we are with the internet. The internet is another tool to both further advance our ability to communicate across time and space, but it is also a tool to irritate and to dodge unwanted communication. There is also then a class issue proposed by lack of internet. If we are more human because of the internet, we imply that those without the technology or inclination to use the internet are less human. Such a thought would then create a humanistic paradox: How can one be more human while accepting the dehumanization and marginalization of another group?
Geez, I hope I get a good grade on this… :)
Wow – I’d give that an excellent grade. You must have gone to a very fine university to have honed your thinking like that :-).
In some ways I find the lack of internet kind of pleasant. I’ve read (books) tons more than usual (ll of HP 7 and halfway through Cryptonomicon), which has been really nice. Being disconnected from my blog and Flickr has sucked, though. I can’t say I miss my e-mail much, though :-).
