Love that dog is a wonderful little gem

Love That Dog (Joanna Cotler Books)
SubEvilBoy got Love that dog by Sharon Creech from Otto for his birthday, and I read it while we were in Arkansas for the holidays. It took maybe 15-20 minutes (tops!) to read, and was a truly wonderful little piece. It’s in the form of a set of poems written by boy in late elementary(?) school, and in precious few words speaks volumes about the characters and the nature of poetry and expression. Full marks.

Currently listening to random loud noises coming from the loop at KUMM. Some good songs have wandered by, but I have no idea what any of them are…

2 (of many) cool Xmas presents

I’m trying out the Amazon plugin, so I figured I’d use it to put in a plug for two Christmas prezzies that are pretty cool.

Who Is This America

First, one of the many excellent CDs I got was Antibalas’ Who is this America, which is seriously excellent. Great Fela-Kuti-style afropop with wonderful (long) dance tunes with very cool political lyrics that Fela would have been proud of. A definite keeper.

The Kite Runner

I didn’t get so many books this year, mostly because I go so much music :-), but one book that’s looking really good is The kite runner. I’m only about a quarter of the way through, but the first section (in Afghanistan in the 70’s in the years before and in the early years of the Soviet occupation) is worth the price of admission alone. I’m definitely looking forward to the rest of the novel.
