The good people at <a href=\"http:\/\/ccMixter.org\/\">ccMixter.org<\/a> (related to <a href=\"http:\/\/CreativeCommons.org\/\">CreativeCommons.org<\/a>) are sponsoring a cool contest:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nThis is a contest for artists to mix audio tracks under 4 minutes which use provided voice samples from Ben Franzen and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kembrew.com\/\">Kembrew McLeod<\/a>&#8216;s forthcoming film, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.copyrightcriminals.com\/\">Copyright Criminals<\/a>.&#8221; Samples from the film include voiceovers from De La Soul, DJ Qbert, members of Public Enemy, Matmos, Coldcut, members of Negativland, and others. The best overall winner will be included prominently in the film and the top 11 other entries are to be included on a companion CD.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/frischmilch\/73956114\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/static.flickr.com\/43\/73956114_76074b00b7_m_d.jpg?resize=181%2C240\" alt=\"'my new hot and sexy diamond' from frischmilch on Flickr.com\" align='left' hspace='10' vspace='10' height='240' width='181' data-recalc-dims=\"1\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThere&#8217;s some <a href=\"http:\/\/ccmixter.org\/copyrightcriminals\/view\/contest\/sources\">great source material to work with<\/a>; if you haven&#8217;t checked out the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.copyrightcriminals.com\/\">10+ minute preview of the film<\/a>, I definitely recommend it.  Personally, I love this line from Harry Allen (of Public Enemy fame):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nI&#8217;ve never, I&#8217;ve never really heard a completely original music idea by anyone&#8230;\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The way he repeats the first two words has a neat rhythm to it and lots of potential as a loop element, and you gotta <em>love<\/em> the sentiment&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ve got until the end of February, so get busy!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Currently listening to:<\/strong>  The <em>excellent<\/em> &#8220;The battle&#8221; from Lady Sovereign&#8217;s <cite>Vertically challenged<\/cite> EP.  This is an amazing display of ultra-high-speed UK grime spitting; the skill of it just blows me away.
