Probably old hat to many of you, but it tickled me pink :-).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\nSETI is based on the simple assumption that the nature operates elsewhere the same way it does here. Once you assume <em>any<\/em> of it is inexplicable magic, you really might as well assume it&#8217;s <em>all<\/em> inexplicable magic and go home.  After you&#8217;ve opened that door, there&#8217;s certainly no sensible way to draw the lines&#8230;\n<\/p>\n<p>And while I&#8217;m here, I&#8217;ll put in a plug for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ooblick.com\/weblog\/2007\/02\/05\/pandas-podcast-casting-call\/\">Ooblog&#8217;s casting call<\/a>.  They&#8217;re putting together a dramatic re-enactment of the Dover trials to be released as a series of podcasts, and are looking for people to read parts.
