Unfortunately clear and public demonstrations of gross ignorance of material central to a committee that he chairs didn&#8217;t really change anything; incompetence has rarely done much damage to a politician,<\/p>\n<p>Now, however, we have all sorts of exciting scandal brewing (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/cq\/2007\/06\/21\/cq_2933.html\">here<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salon.com\/news\/feature\/2007\/06\/19\/halliburton\/\">there<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/news.google.com\/news?hl=en&#038;ned=us&#038;q=Ted+Stevens+scandal&#038;btnG=Search+News\">elsewhere<\/a>), and it&#8217;s fairly clear that his nearly 40 year run in the U.S. Senate has included more than a little shuffling of the cards under the table.
